Over the summer I got a text from a dear friend, saying that her friend was getting married and that the couple was going to have a surprise wedding.
Needless to say, I was intrigued. The couple planned to invite their close friends and family to their new home for a "Housewarming Party", only to surprise them with the news that.... actually this is our wedding! The wedding would be small and intimate and personal.
After a lovely phone call with the bride I knew I wanted to photograph this wedding. At this point in my career, I am very selective about the weddings I accept and can tell fairly quickly if I'm a good match for a couple; having a close connection and understanding with the couple is essential for me to create my best work. Amelia and Jackson were kind and thoughtful and I admired their bravery in designing their wedding in a way that best expressed their values and priorities. Being one of only a few people who knew that the wedding was happening, I waited eagerly for November to come.
The day itself was perfect; sunny and mild. The guests handled the surprise with shock and enthusiasm. We ate and drank and celebrated together.
Thank you Amelia and Jackson for trusting me with this responsibility; it was an honor to document your wedding day.
